**Anyone remember what it was like to wait with anticipation for the newest Beatles album? Run to the local record store, purchase the album (I remember the White Album going for around ten dollars or so), queuing up the turntable and listening to that virgin vinyl for the first time. Nothing like it. And the best part was feeling you were part of history.
*I was too young in the 60's to appreciate the lps when they were first released. But I do remember the hoopla of the repackages of the 70's - Red/Blue albums, Rock and Roll Music, Hollywood Bowl, Love Songs, etc. Of course I also went back and experienced all the original lps as well as the all their solo stuff. I remember the 5 years that Lennon was inactive in the 70's seemed like an eternity. Now that I'm older 5 years seems like nothing, but when you're in your teens it seemed like it was forever. The 70's were a fun time to be a "second generation" fan. The reunion rumors were strong, the solo stuff was good, and it was a just a fun time to be a Beatles fan. Not to mention the Rutles movie and lp also came out in '78. My friends and I were probably the biggest Rutles nuts around...lol
Guess I was too old for that decade, but the various compilations did very little for me. Although I was partial to the red and blue best ofs, mainly because of the album covers. The rest I ignored.
