*My daughter who lives in Florida witnessed first hand what
*happened and how people were reacting and she said the same
*thing. Unnecessary panic in areas created by the media, that were not in immediate or imminent danger created a dangerous situation in of itself. And where there is panic there ARE accidents and casualties. The media will claim they had the best of intentions but in reality they don't consider the ramifications of what they are reporting when it becomes erroneous. They don't take any responsibility for it.
*And I will certainly take the word of someone who actually lives there and dealt with the hurricane over someone who doesn't.
people who don't live here simply don't get it
the mass hysteria often causes more problems then the storms themselves
its a reality for us that live here - there's not much point in evacuating MOST areas (the keys and barrier islands aside) because no matter where you go, you will be stuck in bumper to bumper traffic in areas you are unfamiliar with, with little or no gasoline or food available. for most, its best to be prepared and stay put...batton down the hatches and ride it out
