**It is common knowledge that over the years, vs. the very early years, they collaborated less with one other most of the time - instead John may have had a snippet in one track (Getting Better), Paul in another (Day in the Life). Two of Us, toward the very end, was truly a flash back to the early days, with wonderful harmonizing akin to the Everly Brothers.
**But it does beg the question, did they push each other to heights they might not have otherwise achieved?
**Paul ran by Hey Jude to John, not sure if he should change anything, John encouraging him to leave it just as it was.
**But what about the others?
**Would Paul every have come up with a Yesterday or Let It Be, John Across the Universe or Strawberry Fields?
**Nothing they did as solo artists could come close to the cream of the crop of the Beatles.
* Paul has mentioned in interviews that there was a healthy competitiveness between him and John. And I think he even said that it existed when they collaborated more during the early years.
* It seems like Sgt. Pepper was the last album where Paul and John were still pretty collaborative. In terms of being in each other's presence while they were writing.
McCartney never stopped looking for a collaborater his equal, but of course he never did.
I wish he and George had gotten together during those years and composed and recorded together. By the time of Anthology it seemed as if George was still simmering under the surface from the sometime tension in the recording studio between he and Paul, mainly from the White Album on. But it was real nice that they had some time together on camera, with Ringo, to reminisce about the better times.
