******From the Playboy interview:
******"PLAYBOY: "Getting Better."
******LENNON: It is a diary form of writing. All that "I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved" was me. I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically -- any woman. I was a hitter. I couldn't express myself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women. That is why I am always on about peace, you see. It is the most violent people who go for love and peace. Everything's the opposite. But I sincerely believe in love and peace. I am not violent man who has learned not to be violent and regrets his violence. I will have to be a lot older before I can face in public how I treated women as a youngster."
******The ironic thing is that he preached love and non-violence, but he hit Cynthia and cheated on her and Ono. A world-class hypocrite.
*****So you don't think people can change their ways or learn from their mistakes? Isn't that exactly what he's saying right here? It's called learning to be a better person, because we're not all perfect.
****Nice concept, and I'm sure he had regrets, but it doesn't erase the fact that, while he sang about All You Need Is Love, he was pretty screwed in his private life, and had a violent past.
****Hitting a woman is just inexcusable - I don't know if by regretting it it can erase the hurt, both physical and emotional.
***You should hang out on the Donny Osmond board!
**Not sure what it has to do with a big toothed Osmond who plays Vegas.
**I never lifted a hand to any woman, and never will. So if someone who is a giant celebrity does it, and never really apologizes for it years later, well, it is right to call him out.
**Anyhow, the while concept of the thread was to point out the hypocrisy in his songs. Not to judge his actions alone, just to compare his life to his art.
**As a recording artist he was peerless. As a human being...well, let me just leave it at that.
*i'm really not sure why you're so hung up on this.
*Lennon actually did very much apologize; to Cynthia, the one he should apologize to - and as she said he was true to his word and never did it again. she in fact later married him.
*Also Lennon has articulated, many times, how he was a violent youth who had to learn how to be peaceful. He talk about it many times - he never tried to hide it or defend it or rationalize it. he acknowledged that his actions were wrong and that he learned from it.
*why you feel the need to hang on to it i have no idea.
I think what we are dealing with here, is someone who likes to express ridiculous opinions, just to get a conversation going. Not the kind of conversation I care to be involved in, frankly. He almost sounds like the killer sometimes, calling John Lennon a hypocrite, like he does. He should grow up, like John Lennon did!
