** On the Sirius/XM Beatles channel they play both the stereo and mono mixes of each Beatle song at different times. And to me it's now even more noticeable about how superior the mono mixes are. They pack a lot more of a punch. I'm not totally sure if they play any mono Sgt. Pepper tracks now since they obviously want fans who haven't bought it yet to hear how great the new remixed stereo version sounds. If I ran the channel I'd play all three. I think the original stereo mix is the weakest of the three but I'd still play it for historical significance. And I do think the mono Pepper mixes still deserve to be heard even if Giles Martin used the mono version has his main source for the 2017 stereo remix.
*I agree. The extreme separation on the Capitol albums (not to even mention the awful duophonic treatment) makes them almost un-listenable with headphones.
They hated them, not to say that they thought their albums were chopped up into bits and pieces so that Capitol could make more money off of them.
Hence the 'Yesterday and Today' album cover.
