*****Anyone want to offer an opinion as to what will become of he Beatles music once the baby boomer generation passes on? Me thinks a steady decline in interest, give the fact that most of the music is beyond the half-century mark. The earliest albums sound very dated, have for some time. From Beatles For Sale, original songs, better. Rubber Soul and Abbey Road, in my opinion, have aged the best. But as for the rest...
****it'll still be there - maybe not with the intensity it's been at for the last several decades - but still present like Sinatra, Martin, etc. It's classic stuff with staying power.
****My 27 year old daughter is a rabid Beatles Fan.
***You mean Dean Martin records are in the Billboard 100? That's news to me. How many Beatles albums are there? McCartney? Harrison? Starr? Remember, as long as the Twotools are around the memories remain sharp. Once they pass on, a lot of that will probably slowly fade away. And by 2050 (coming up much sooner than any baby boomer would admit) is not far off.
**they don't have to be in "the Billboard" to remain relevant - there's a whole damn channel on Sirrus XM dedicated to the Rat Pack - it it's still getting mega ratings - certain music NEVER dies or fades away
**since you seem to already be of the mind that it's going to fade away based on your replies to everyone that's posted into this thread - I have to ask...
**Why did you even post this?
*To generate life to a dying web site. To open up a real discussion. And frankly to air my sentiments. I don't dislike them, I just don't think they were or are gods. My god, there has been so much mythology built up around them you would think that nothing else has happened since 1964.
You sound like a huge fan who maybe is a little to close the music....maybe a "familiarity breeds contempt" scenario? I find myself like that too at times, especially when it comes to John. I can be very critical but that's just because I'm such a big fan. It's kind of like criticizing your favorite sports team.
I really think the music will live on for many years to come. They literally just started a Satellite channel, the music is streaming everywhere, and I can't see the record company ever letting it go. Hell there could be a 100th anniversary of Sgt Pepper on micro chip for your brain or something. This whole post is just a lot of overthinking. They are not gods for sure, but the music sounds good and that's really all that matters. I've always thought they broke up because they couldn't handle the pressure that fans and the media had put on them. They couldn't live up to the myth. They were just 4 guys in a band that couldn't even read music. But again it all sounds good and it made people happy.
