*I read a review of the album in which Martin states that they went back to the mono master as the source of the remixing. My question is, how do you create a stereo mix from a mono master? I am totally confused. It sounds more like the awful Capitol Records Duophonic albums from the 60's. I must be completely missing something. Sorry for my ignorance.

They may have done what the fellow below said. Use the mono mix as a "guide". I definitely notice the "flanging" on Lennon's voice in Lucy on the Sky. She's Leaving Home is sped up as in the mono mix. The laughter after Within You Without You is from the mono mix. The only slight disappointment for me is the "flanging missing on the guitar solo in Good Morning & the missing extra beat that's in the mono album but not the new stereo mix. In between Good Morning & Sgt.Pepper Reprise. C'mon Giles you're smarter than that. Aren't you?
