Let's see..2 possible explanations:

1) Owner put up the signs and gave the park caretakers a few days off..he just used the NPS as an excuse.
Or
2) Maybe the NPS isn't smart enough to figure out what should remain open.

It doesn't matter much to me.. I didn't have any immediate plans to go to Mount Vernon anyway..did you?
