****I think it's common knowledge on here that I'm a huge Billy Joel dork. I follow both him and his daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, on Facebook, and recently Alexa's been featured in a GAP ad campaign where she covers "Just the Way You Are," which has always been one of my favorites from way back when I first heard it being sung to Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street.
****
****Until today, all that you could hear of her version without paying was the 30-second clip from the commercial, but apparently she performed the whole thing on Katie Couric's show, and someone uploaded the bit. Alexa posted the video to her fanpage.
****
****Now I've been working on that particular song lately on guitar, so I've been thinking a lot about it, and hearing this particular rendition was like hearing someone else play what was going on in my head. So I posted under the video on her page, not those thoughts exactly, but something inspired by them.
****
****And she replied to me. To *me.* She tagged my name and everything. So far, it's the only reply she's given in the thread. And it made my day. I'm just absolutely geeking out. I don't know what to do with all of this excess energy, it's after midnight over here. I started making strange noises, and my roommate asked if I was okay.
****
****Because in the end, even if it's minor celebrity, or celebrity once-removed, this is still a person I admire. And whether that admiration is misplaced, or whether there's someone else who deserves it more, it doesn't matter. She replied to me. She replied to me. And suddenly I'm a goddamn schoolgirl.

***In my experiences over the past 20 years, I've met quite a number of famous personalities (mostly music associated) and it does give one a sense of euphoria in a way knowing that person actually took the time to make personal contact with you. But after awhile, it gets down to realizing they are just people too.
***The most memorable for me is Louise Harrison (sister of Beatle George) and we became friends a long time ago and we still talk whenever she's in town. Don't see much of her these days, she's busy in Branson with a Beatle Tribute act she put together. But it's nice to know when she is in town I can just walk up to her and chat with her. She's a very personable and delightful person and we always end our chats with a hug.

**Yeah, I think the whole thing works on the same basic principles as a crush. It's that "she noticed me! Does she like me? I really want her to like me" thing, and once I'm assured that, yes, this person is a regular person who likes other regular people, then that need goes away and everything's fine. I just haven't gotten out of the "she's noticed me!" phase yet.*

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I haven't thought about it more than once since I was in middle school and realized that Billy Joel has a daughter almost exactly my age, not to mention how often I thought about it in high school after I realized "oh yeah, and her mom's a supermodel," but A) she lives on the wrong side of the planet, B) she's taken, and C) if I was ever under the illusion that I lived in a fairy tale (note: I definitely did at some point), that image was shattered by the last two years.
That said, this is more a platonic crush. I'm sort of going through the same thing with actor Misha Collins at the moment, with the difference being that there's actually some chance of my meeting the guy this year. And also there's some chance that he's already seen me in my underwear. Long story.Followup Messages:
