**I think it's common knowledge on here that I'm a huge Billy Joel dork. I follow both him and his daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, on Facebook, and recently Alexa's been featured in a GAP ad campaign where she covers "Just the Way You Are," which has always been one of my favorites from way back when I first heard it being sung to Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street.
**
**Until today, all that you could hear of her version without paying was the 30-second clip from the commercial, but apparently she performed the whole thing on Katie Couric's show, and someone uploaded the bit. Alexa posted the video to her fanpage.
**
**Now I've been working on that particular song lately on guitar, so I've been thinking a lot about it, and hearing this particular rendition was like hearing someone else play what was going on in my head. So I posted under the video on her page, not those thoughts exactly, but something inspired by them.
**
**And she replied to me. To *me.* She tagged my name and everything. So far, it's the only reply she's given in the thread. And it made my day. I'm just absolutely geeking out. I don't know what to do with all of this excess energy, it's after midnight over here. I started making strange noises, and my roommate asked if I was okay.
**
**Because in the end, even if it's minor celebrity, or celebrity once-removed, this is still a person I admire. And whether that admiration is misplaced, or whether there's someone else who deserves it more, it doesn't matter. She replied to me. She replied to me. And suddenly I'm a goddamn schoolgirl.

*That's what Twitter is for, so people like us can pretend we're friends with famous people. It was a bit of a thrill when Neil Gaiman once replied to me (An observation about Jews in the US and the UK. In the US, we're often religious, yet don't keep kosher, whereas in the UK, Jews tend to keep kosher, even if they aren't religious.), and Katy Manning once recommended Rick Zito's guitar playing to me and wished my girlfriend a happy birthday when I asked her through a mutual twitter friend.
*
*So I know exactly what you're talking about.

I hadn't really thought of Twitter... I generally use that forum to follow more minor celebrities, primarily webcomic artists, who tend to be more approachable anyway. The internet is such a weird place.Followup Messages:
