You are likely to be proven right. I'm sure Paul chose "New" as the single because it is quite catchy but I wouldn't be surprised if there are other album tracks that are way better. I'm looking forward to the album. If Paul continues the trend of his last few albums the upcoming one should be good too. And although I didn't care for it at first Kisses on the Bottom has grown on me so I even enjoy that album for what it is. But I'm glad Paul is back to doing the pop/rock genre.
