*i like the production, i like the clarity of sound but i am having a hard time with the songs. i guess to a certain extent i'm stuck on looking for melodic, singable songs - in the great american songbook tradition, sort of or straight up rock n'roll a la Chuck Berry or Eddie Cochran....i do like experimentation and stretching boundaries but as much as i appreciate what you're doing it doesn't connect, so far...i've listened through as much as is available without purchasing - i'll listen again with an open digestive system...
It's interesting to try to hear this the way other people are hearing it. I thought of it as straightforward songs with a bit of experimentation on top, but you're not the first to say it's more heavily on the experimental side. There isn't really any straight-up rock and roll, though it is in the mix of influences. I would like to be able to write stronger vocal melodies. There are some nice melodic moments, but I'm not exactly Bacharach, I'm the first to admit. Some of "I Saved You," actually reminds me a bit of Lennon's melodies. On the other hand, it's one of the more experimental songs on the album, with two different approaches to free-form sections.
Thanks for listening. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment on it.
