If he backs down now, he can always claim he was counting on a greater level of support from abroad... The faithful will buy it.. Those eager to take us into the thick of it (McCain and Graham for starters) will grumble for awhile but they'll be back to placing lip prints on his ass in no time... And ticking them off will be a plus to the dedicated Obama boosters...
