* Linda Ronstadt has revealed that she was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease eight months ago and now cannot sing a note... She needs a wheelchair for travel...

*When I think of the warmth, seductiveness, and dexterity of that unique voice, it almost breaks my heart to think of that nightingale song living only on disc or on vinyl..

*So damn sad...

I generally think of her in the same terms of Eric Clapton, and not in a good way. They both took things that others had done better and repeated them louder with a nice tone, but with less feel. However, there are a few songs where I have to admit that she got it exactly right and I have a lot of respect for her, since she pretty much said "I've been a big star for a while, now I'm going to do whatever I want."

I saw her once in the mid 90s. When she did her lullabies album in the mid-90s, she promoted it by doing an instore performance at the Barnes & Noble across the street from where I was working at the time, so a friend and I snuck out a half hour early to see her. She did about three songs backed by a harp and she still had a lovely tone (the lack of feel mainly applied to the R&B covers she did in the 70s, which I've read that she wasn't too happy about doing, anyway).

And she really was lovely in the 70s.
