What comes to mind for me is the backlash against health insurance for all. Employers are going to go bankrupt! People will lose jobs! Businesses can't afford to provide health care! People are going to get laid off!
Yet here they are saying they need to almost double their hourly wages just to survive. I'm not disputing that minimum wage jobs don't provide enough to support a comfortable existence. So it's ok to demand a huge increase in hourly wages but if you mandate that employers have to provide a minimal amount of health insurance for all employees then that's a deal-breaker?
However you feel about doctors/medications/health industry yada yada yada people need to know they are able to receive the health care they need when they need it, and at a reasonable cost that won't bankrupt them and force them into insurmountable debt. And yeah if you get hit by a car or get a cancer diagnosis then vitamins and exercise and herbal remedies are not going to make you all better.
Is the argument that these businesses CAN pay these wages? Then what is all the whining about health insurance shutting businesses down about?
There is a cost to employing people that goes beyond their hourly wages. Training is expensive. Workers' compensation insurance is expensive. Insurance to protect against bad acts and/or vehicle mishaps is expensive. And if you invest all that in a new employee but they end up having to drop out due to a major health episode, then that's money down the drain for the employer.
It's very complicated and maybe too much so for some to comprehend. I really have no tolerance for those who have what they need but don't believe others should have what they have. So sue me.Followup Messages:
