Hi bon bon, thank you. It was indeed quite a relaxed and pleasant day.
We left our car in the car park underneath the Cathedral and strolled to the where the locks are. It’s just a 5 minutes walk.
Our lock is in this field
Actually in the middle of this picture
and her it is. We married on that day
We then did a short boattrip on the river Rhine

Near the Cathedral there also is the so called Musical Dome, which currently is also used Cologne’s Opera while the original Opera is getting renovated.
Better view, Cathedral and Musical Dome
And guess what, this month they will perform THIS!. If I find the time (quite unlikely that I will), I may go.

Cologne really suffered during WWII, but big parts of the historic center actually escaped the bombing, especially the part directly near the cathedral.

After the boat trip we strolled to the historic center and had some lunch/dinner. I had my 2 glasses of Koelsch also.
We went to the Restaurant ‘Inside The Whale’
This building dates from 1476 and ever since then they were serving beer at this place.
Koelsch (the beer being brewed in Cologne only) is always served in small glasses (0,2 ltr), you will *never* get it into a Stein or something like that. Would be a capital sin to do that. Koelsch (or Kölsch as it correctly spelled (and I hope the Umlaut shows up in Bagism)) is also one of the few beers I know (and I am by no meaning a beer drinker, as I have to admit) which just doesn’t taste if you get it in a bottle. The typical very fresh taste comes through from the tap only. Now, what if huge groups of tourists or a horde of thirsty men get into places like the Whale? Easy solution. They serve the beer like they did on the neighboring table. Where btw a horde of thirsty women was demanding Koelsch.
3 or 5 ltr and everybody can fill his/her glass whenever he/she wants to do that If I got this right, this equals to 101,44 fl oz, respectively 169,07 fl oz in the US.
Last, but not least: Back home again!
