***Yes, I thought later that I should have added at least one more possibility...Something concerning the profound historical significance of his being the first black president and how that monumental step forward must not be tarnished by any hint of scandal or corruption... Too big to fail...

on a side note, I think all of your options above could be a result or combination of two categorical states, cowardice or complicity.......the option I proffered,..... the result of dumbassness.
