Obama's Dog Airlifted to 1% Luxury Vacation on Martha's Vineyard

When a family heads on vacation they put their pets in a kennel, have a neighbor check in on the pets, or bring the pets in the car with them (or, if you're Mitt Romney, on top of the car). First dog Bo is not an ordinary dog and receives special treatment.

President Obama is on vacation at Martha’s Vineyard and Bo was flown in on a MV-22 Ospreys.

Yes. That's right!
Bo, the president's Portuguese Water Dog, arrived *separately* on one of two MV-22 Ospreys, a hybrid aircraft which takes off like a helicopter but flies like a plane.

Rooms have to be found for dozens of Secret Service agents, someone has to carry a selection of presidential basketballs, and of course the family dog needs his own state-of-the-art aircraft.

More than 70 hotel rooms, each costing up to $345 (£220) a night, have been booked out for Secret Service agents, who took charge of luggage including two large mesh bags full of basketballs.

The first family are on the island for eight days. 70 rooms are reserved for Secret Service agents. They are staying at a $7.6 million, 5,000-square foot mansion on nine acres. This puts him closer to town, which means there will be many road closures and detours for the residents who live on the island. Quite a few of them are not happy and were told to email the White House with any complaints. The White House already released a statement. From the Telegraph:

Jay Carney, White House spokesman, said: "Obviously, when you're President of the United States, you carry a little baggage when you travel. And that's true whether it's on a summit, international meeting, a domestic trip, or for a vacation. I know he's looking forward very much to some down time with his family. I'm sure he'll see some friends."

Just how many of us use a $70,000,000 aircraft to make sure our pet gets to the travel destination in comfort?
===================================
The MV-22 costs more than $10,000 per hour to operate because it was combines the high speed of aircraft with the vertical landing capability of a helicopter. The aircraft’s unique design allows it carry twenty U.S. Marines into combat at high speeds, over long distances and through enemy air defenses.

The expensive capabilities are proving their worth in Afghanistan, where the aircraft are being used successfully to surprise and kill Al Qaeda-allied Taliban jihadis hiding in the country’s high mountains.
=====================================
As far as I know summertime trips from Washington to Martha’s Vinyard do not involve mountains, snow, gunfire or assault-landings.

$10,000 a day to operate. And the family dog get one to himself.

On the Public's Purse......
