If ever there was a classic rock and roll single, it was one released on this date in 1956...'Hound Dog/Don't Be Cruel' stayed at the top of the charts for eleven weeks, a feat that wasn't matched until 1992.. I'd wager that if you polled a hundred people and asked them to name an Elvis song, the majority of that hundred would pick one of those tunes...


And 'Hound Dog' was still cast its spell many years later...John Lennon said his young son Sean loved the tune and thought it was about hunting...
