*** An 18 year-old fellow pops into 706 Union Avenue...He lays down 3.98 to record two songs which are both ballads... 'My Happiness' and 'That's When Your Heartaches Begin'...Employee Marion Kesler takes note that this kid is a "good ballad singer"..."Who do you sound like?" she asks him. "I don't sound like nobody" is his response...

***The recording of 'My Happiness' didn't see the light of day for twenty years or more.. But when you listen, you can tell this kid had something going on...

***I recently had the joyful experience of hearing this played while on the Sun Studios tour and it was almost like hearing it for the first time..

***July 18, 1953... The spark was set..

*You must! That's an order from General Murray! The quadruple whammy of Sun Studios, Stax Records Museum, Beale Street, and Graceland will knock your socks off...And if you aren't wearing socks, it will put them on your feet! :)

**Lucky me though to be born 6 months and a week earlier than that date, to soon hear Elvis's records on my sister's record player! And KNOW that music was something I HAD to get to know. For hearing Elvis made it clear as to understanding the passion behind it. (Thinking back), he made me FEEL music in a way that was different than the jack in the box song, for example.

**At 18, he already had what great singers are taught to do, and that is to SELL the song as if the singer wrote it. To be expressive, and with effective phrasing. He did that just being natural to himself, which is a gift in full! (For the many who enjoy him still). I just wish he hadn't the extreme crazed fans who wouldn't let him be a person among us, to do anything other than sing on stage when out in public. It ruined his life that at the same time, enhanced the lives of the ones who kept him in a God-like confinement. Ironic and sad.

**Thanks for your cool story and for the reminder of that session.
