*********
********* Stevie Wonder has announced he will boycott Florida and any other state which has Stand Your Ground Laws... That means almost half the country...
*********
*********
*********No question he has every right to take such a stand...We also have the right to form an opinion on whether it's fair to those living in those boycotted states who have put money in his pocket all these years...They may be just as outraged by the verdict as he is...But it looks like they'll get punished anyway...
*********
********
********It's fair. Personally, I agree that he's hurting people who might agree with him, but it's still fair. The people who "put money in his pocket" weren't doing him any favors. They got the records and performances that they paid for.
*******
*******
*******
******* It's a shitty way to treat your fans... Sure, I doubt he'll suffer financially to a great degree but it still shows a lack of respect for those who have been loyal yo him over the years...
*******
*******Ot course he has the right to be stupid and ungrateful...
******
******Are you sure his fans are a demanding, whiny bunch who think that because they bought a Stevie Wonder album, they're entitled to control his life? Is every artist who doesn't play everywhere for whatever reason disrespectful of his fans? Why should this be considered any more disrepectful than say, not touring because an artist wants the time off? There are artists I like who I'll never see again because they've made similar decisions and I've never thought of it as disrespectful toward me.
******
******You know what? I'll never see Paul McCartney because his shows are more than I can afford. There are other people who'll never see him because they live in places he rarely tours. There are some people who won't see him simply because they couldn't get tickets. Is it disrespectful of him not to give free concerts and stream them online so everyone could see them?

***** He's not taking time off... He is making a blatant and polarizing political statement...He is saying I will not play in any state which has Stand Your Ground laws...He doesn't care whether many residents of that state abhor those laws as much as he does.. It makes not difference whether they are for or against.. Those shut out are not trying yo control anyone's life...That's expecting not be held responsible for something you had no part in...
*****
****
****No one is saying that his fans are responsible for anything. But, again, it's Stevie Wonder's choice. He wants to make a statement that those laws are wrong, which is a legitimate position to hold.
****
*****
***** Making it clear you don't want those who support Stand Your Ground in your fan base would be one thing...But penalizing those who just want to go and hear you play your music? Even those who disagree with your politics but greatly appreciate your art and do not penalize you because they may disagree with your political views?
*****
*****
*****
*****It's a thoughtless display of ingratitude..... I happen to think there are much more constructive ways to advocate for the overturning of Stand Your Ground laws than penalizing the opponents as well as the supporters...
*****
*****
****
****I think you just want to feel morally superior to anyone who disagrees with you. That's why you're claiming that there's something wrong when an artist doesn't tour in a given place to make a political statement, but you'll excuse them for not touring for another reason.
***
***
***
***You've achieved the ultimate in sheer gall with that one...
***
***
*** Considering you had to enlarge your doorways in order to fit your morbidly obese ego through them..
***
**
**Really? Who was it who started this thread to insist that someone who he disagreed with was being "disrespectful to his fans?"
**
**You've spent years whining about this.
*
*
*
* I've mentioned it a number of tomes because I have strong feelings about entertainers who go out of their way to polarize the audience... And I'll probably do so again if I so choose.. if you don't like it, that's your problem...
*
*
*And being in strong disagreement does not mean I consider myself morally superior to those I disagree with...
Wonder if he feels the same about artists, academicians, scientists, public figures and the Billy Fudge's of this planet who BDS the apartheid state of Israel?
