*****It's obvious the people and the military of Egypt did not want an Islamist in charge of things.

****the problem with what you are saying is that the people did elect Morsi and it is the military who are ousting him. You may not like the party and that it's Islamic based but as you state to others here who comment on US internal politics it is your choice not outsiders.
****
****Morsi certainly has done some things that a large group of people don't like which is obvious by the demonstrations but he was elected by the people.
****
****i guess where they are is in between Mubarak and where they want to be - I can't see the military keeping rule for an extended period, they will have to move to elections as soon as possible or the country will implode. There will be another very large group that will go to the streets while the military controls the state as that is what they demonstrated against before.
****
****this is a volatile position to be in, "Mr Morsi, Egypt's first freely elected leader, is under house arrest after what he says was a military coup."

***The military was the only option the people had to oust him successfully, but I'm sure there are many across the country that were in favor of his ouster and glad the military did it, (thus explaining the thousands of people gathered in city squares across the country celebrating his ouster).
***Those who put him in power perhaps didn't know what he was really all about and now perhaps they learned and wanted him out too.
***My other point was we should just back off and let THEM decide for themselves what they want instead of seeing if Obama is going to say or do anything to intervene in the situation. There comes a time when we should just back off and let it ride (and hopefully this is what Obama will do). After all, the whole can't be just like us..

*
*how would the military be the last option in a freely elected democratic country??
*
*the Egyptian people demonstrated against military rule and Mubarak's dictatorship demanding free elections.
*
*they got it - they won the day
*
*and elections were called and monitored and Morsi was elected by the people by over 50% - there were no complains of rigged elections...
*
*how can you refute that?
*
*who cares if there are demonstrations? there are demonstration in my country every day against the current government - and i agree that we should vote out our current government. but as long as i'm in the minority i will respect the will of the system.
*
*as far as i can see, it is really very shaky grounds to agree to a military coup of a freely elected government - whether you agree with the Morsi government or not - and i personally don't - but oh well...
*

In terms of UK elections, for a party to get over 50% of the vote it would be a 'landslide' majority. The most I've heard of over the last 100 years is about 45%. Don't know if it's the same in Canada.
