To carry it a bit further...

IX = 9 It's known that the number 9 was John's favorite number and he made reference to that number quite often which would make the image rather prophetic too in a way.

It's all in how you see it.

But no one can really say it wasn't deliberate. I've always held the belief that it was deliberate. Just a art of one of the greatest publicity stunts ever IMHO.
