********On this date in that year , STINYC was released in the US... I remember buying it a few days later.. It came with a petition to keep John from being deported...One day. I went out to the block across from our basement apartment in Baltimore and got quite a few signatures on the petition.. Hey, Johns Hoplins University was only about four blocks away so...

********It's been a long time since I listened to the album though...
*******
*******Sometime in NYC, is, to me, perhaps the nadir of John's solo career, in spite of some glorious redemptive moments,
******* The concept for the album almost dated the material before it was released. The topical subject matter made it like the newspaper it emulates, an instant discard.
******* It's saving graces were "Woman is the Nigger of the World, and New York City. The first has an almost hypnotic ambiance, with the psychological underlying anger and self loathing that places this rocker, in my opinion among his great artistic achievements. New York City is just plain good Rock'n'Roll, nuff said.
******* The second disc, the live jams is virtually unlistenable, with the excptions of Cold Turkey and Baby Please Don't Go.
****** This album ranks #2 on my personal list of least favorite Lennon albums.

***** Are you counting the Lennon/Ono albums such as 'Two Virgins', "Life With The Lions' and 'The Wedding Album'?

**** Ono! Not so! Those were collaboration albums with Yoko.
**** Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey were less than collaboration albums, but two artists trading off tracks on a single album, so I consider them as solo half -albums. :)

*** STINYC is a collab too, what with "Sisters O Sisters", "Born In A Prison" and "We're All Water"... So what's your least favorite Lennon album then?
**
**You know, I had forgotten about that... weird.
** My least favorite Lennon album is Rock'n'Roll.
** Stand by Me, and Bebopalula are great covers, but the rest are lackluster and the production is wanting.
**
*
* I also like Peggy Sue...
Slippin' And Slidin' was good too, I think...I didn't get the album until a year and a half after it was released and it's gotten very little play compared with the other Lennon albums...
It's hard to think of it as a full-fledged Lennon album.. It's more like some bonus record or authorized bootleg...Followup Messages:
