******* Guess we tend to believe songs which were so popular are also very familiar over there...

*******It would be kind of fun to investigate American hits which totally flopped in the UK..

******Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I heard the Archie Bell song and thought it was an obscurity as I'd never heard of it before..but then found it had been a No.1 in the US.
******
******I once knew a guy who's dad had written a song that was a Top 20 hit in the US for Lulu (a British artist but the song was not a hit here). He made a lot of money just from that one song.

*****The only Lulu song I remember making any US chart noise besides the 'To Sir With Love' Number One was 'Oh Me Oh My'... Was that the tune?

****I looked it up recently, it was from a period a little later than I thought - 1981. The track was called "I Could Never Miss You More Than I Do". It got to no.18 in the USA. Still, that was quite a good earner in the days when you had to sell a lot of vinyl singles to get in the charts.

*** That explains it...1983 was during a time when I was trying my very best to avoid what was on the charts so I wouldn't have been familiar with that one...

** Should have read 1981.... I was already in my Top 40 Avoidance mode then though..

** I wouldn't be very good on 80s music trivia...

*The 80s isn't my favourite era either (possibly my least favourite overall) but I'm quite good on pop trivia from that time. I was growing up and following the charts, reading music magazines etc although I did get into 60s music too.

* I looked up the UK Top 20 for different years...According to what I read on 1965's Top 20, Smokey and The Miracles' 'Tracks Of My Tears', The Temptations' 'My Girl', and The Four Tops' "I Can't Help Myself' didn't make it...
'The Rain, The Park And Other Things' by the Cowsills didn't make the cut in 1967 either...
