The days are indeed dark, but allow me to sprinkle a little sunshine on top. Since I drew the comparison to Arthur and Tammany Hall, let's continue with it...
Before his election, Chester Arthur was a corrupt customs official, and a flunky for Tammany Hall. When T H decided they wanted their own man in the White House, they selected the flamboyant, dandified partying prone Chester Arthur to be that man. And they ran him successfully!
But they had misjudged their man!
Apparently he took the oath of office he swore seriously, and faithfully executed the Executive Office to the benefit of the American People, and the detriment of Tammany Hall.
Other than that, his term as President of the United States was fairly lackluster, as you can well imagine, seeing he had bucked on the very powers that had placed him there.
So, let's not be gloomy... there's enough integrity in this nation yet, and things will turn around.
