***Those who don't want to arouse suspicion will tell others not to worry.."it's all in your mind." they'll say.. until that one morning when you wake up and things are totally different. Just ask the Germans or Russians. I remember when I lived in the Philippines back in the 70's when Marcos declared Martial Law suddenly..the next day most of the tv and radio channels (that weren't pro-Marcos) were off the air, and the radio broadcasted nothing but names of those who were being sought or rounded up. The sudden change was dramatic. It became a police state virtually overnight..did the people see it coming? most did not or refused to believe it would happen. An edict went out demanding that people bring in their weapons and no questions would be asked and at the end of a two week period they had amassed more weapons from the civilian population than they had for their army at the time. Little to no resistance at all.
***Then the gates closed and the government had complete control.
***
***As long as there are those who are vigilant and know what the signs are, it will be less likely that it will happen here.
***
***Not saying it can't ever happen. It can. But here I don't think people would surrender their guns as easily. The people here know their rights (or should know them) and that would make it very difficult for the government to obtain total control. There would be a large amount of resistance and possibly another civil

***NO it's not.

*Why do you and Rumor attempt to put a racist tag on anything said against Obama? are you guys trying to pick up GL's slack?
*
I am so sorry Winston.

I do *not* put a racist tag on anything said against Obama, that's not true. In your case I do remember quite well how it all began. During his first campaign to become president. In the beginning you were totally open, but the more clearer it got that he actually *could* win the election, the more negative you got. I remember that I once posted something like this "he (Obama) could save the world in 1 day and all you would say would be something like 'What 24 hrs? Loser!')

But in the meantime we all here have learned that you don't hate the president, you just don't like his policies. That's why you every once in a while feel forced to make negative remarks about his wife and daughters also.

Even in Bush's worst days (and there were many) you always enjoined us to show respect for the predident and the office. Those were the days Winston.

*First of all, YOU don't live in America ..therefore you have no real sense of what Americans truly feel about their rights and freedoms.

Thank you for letting me know Winston. Btw.: I actually *have* lived and worked in the USA (and in France and in Sweden for that matter)

wrt that 'real sense': it would need a definition before we can discuss this. I am convinced that I have a relatively good understanding about what is going on in the USA (and some other places).
Because I am interested.
Because things matter even for me.
Because this is a small world and today's technology allows me to obtain nearly any info I want to obtain.
Because I know many (!) people in the USA and some US citizens living in Germany.
Because I do not only have business relationships (which I also have), but also private relationships.

Hell, I probably could even read your local newspaper would I have the desire to do so.

It's OK that you are not interested in anything happening outside the US (well, actually I do not find that OK, but each to his own), but you shouldn't judge others by your own standards Winston.

I would also dispute that there is any way all Americans truly feel about anything Winston. Different people, different feelings, difdferent educations.

You, for example, ignore that the majority of US citizens still is supporting the idea that the gun laws should be adapted. You just ignore it.

*When they see things happening that are changing this country into something other than what our forefathers wanted, you question that they would actually take up arms against those who would diminish our freedoms? You think it's "absurd" that people would take up arms against the government if they tried to confiscate weapons and attempt to exercise total control over us? Seriously?
*
I think the whole assumption is absurd. It's a sandbox game. There is no such plan, nobody has ever suggested doing that, there's no way that this ever will happen (at least not during our lifetime). That's why bon bon called you an alarmist.

I have already tried to explain it here and while you may again read it, please consider to answer my question at the end of that posting, won't you?

*No wonder Hitler took Germany so easily..charismatic speeches, assuring the people that everything is just fine and there's nothing to worry about..
*
You know Winston, if you really believe that Hitler took Germany so easily and just because of some charismatic speeches and by assuring the people that everything is just fine etc. you should really go to a public library and get you some books.

On the other hand such a simplistic and factually wrong statement is actually typical for you and one of the reasons making any discussion with you so difficult.

by the way: many German people died while trying to fight the NSDAP and trying to prevent Hitler.

*and then what happened?
*
*Save that crap for the funny papers.
*
Which crap?
