** I have always deplored Lennon's politics.
** He always seemed to focus on one segments wrongs while ignoring the misdeeds of those he championed.
** This man of peace advocated those who advocated violent upheaval. Not quite giving peace a chance there.
** Such as supporting that Black Panther who turned out to be very violent indeed.
** Abby Hoffman, Jerry Ruebin .... these were violent and agressive men.
** Even his buddy Phil Spector, well, we know what he did.
** Timothy Leary... just a drugged out whacko.
** John's choice of associates seem to be outside his expressed philosophy.
** Not that he didn't mean well.
** But, being an artist, a musician, a composer, and a poet, doesn't mean one is politically astute.
** Also, one must note the pronounced dichotomy of the man himself. As George Harrison remarked, John Lennon was both a saint and a bastardize.

* I always admired the way John stressed the importance of humor ..He also spoke on the need to recognize the humanity in those who differ with your views..."We might as well be them with the tremendous hostility we have for them" Yoko once said...You get this clearly on J and Y's 1969 Toronto Peace Message and the David Wigg interview with them from 'The Beatles Tapes'..

*
*In later years, John expressed realizations and regrets regarding his association with Rubin, Hoffman, and others...
*This comes through in the 1980 David Sheeff Playboy interviews...
*
*John Lennon made a profound and lasting impact on my life long before politics became a big factor...I try and tell this to people who seem to think one must be in line with all he espoused to be on a board like this...

I think John would respect nothing less than that.
In truth, my first political mentor was John.my changing political views in no way changes my respect for the artist ...
