**...Starts tonight!
**
**Haven't really been keeping up with the NHL (mainly due to crappy coverage here in the states). Have a bunch of friends in Vancouver and will probably be rooting for the Canucks seeing as I have no vested interest in any other teams. Something about playoff hockey that is always just that much better than regular season hockey!
**
**I guess I'll make a prediction and say Blackhawks to win it all.

**...yeah yeah, I'm a mindless drone who follows sports like a good little sheep (inbeforeshittyjmakesherstupidcomment)

*Just watched the Ducks and Red Wings...

*I'm in the same boat as you as far the regular season and I know that I'm a fair-weather fan. I'm not proud of that, but I'll gladly admit it. The Avs SUCKED this year and just got the 1st pick in the draft, so I haven't really followed anything other than knowing the Hawks dominated the short season. Surprised they actually ended up in a shoot-out with the Wild. Chicago has long been my adopted sports city ever since the Sosa/McGuire HR race. My friend was catching for the Reds at the time and Sosa went without a hit on his start. It was a really cool experience sitting with the father of the guy that's calling the pitches while Sosa is whiffing. The crowd was waiting for an HR, but Doc and I silently applauded every single strike. While we were rooting against the Cubs for that series, my experience at that ball park and the cursed history turned me into a Chicago fan. Besides that game sitting with the player's wives and Dyce's dad, I've also crashed one of the roof-top decks. It's just a great city and good fans...So, I guess I can root for the Blackhawks to take the Cup.
Yeah, I followed the Blues for a while back in the day because a friend did haha. Back in the day I was an avid Stars fan but ever since the CBA and the introduction of the salary cap they just haven't been the same. Truth be told they haven't really been the same since they won the cup back in '99 but at least they were exciting to watch from 2000-2004. Now a days they are pretty miserable. Right along with the Cowboys and Astros. Though I still have a soft spot for the Astros and can't become a Rangers fan. Lots of my friends jumped ship years ago when the Rangers started winning but I just never could. I watched an Astros game the other day and it was miserable. Outfielders dropping fly balls, missing the cutoff man. It was like a grown up version of the Bad News Bears only not as comical.
I follow the cubbies from time to time as well. Before the day of 50 million channels and Fox Sports SW/NE/NW/ATL there was WGN and the Cubs and whatever Sunday night baseball game on ESPN. I have many many fond memories of being in little league and sitting inside with my dad during a hot summer day listening to Harry Caray announce Cubs games on WGN. I absolutely love this time of year sports wise because it's Stanley Cup hockey, baseball and near the end of Premier League football.
I would love to watch more hockey but right now all I have is basic cable (i.e. whatever 60 channels my apt complex feels like giving me) and of course none of them are CNBC or the CSNBC where they are airing the games. Thank god for the TuneIn radio app on my ipad, I can listen to all the games. Gary Bettman really fouled things up when he walked away from ESPN. Granted the NHL was right behind World Series of Poker and Professional Bowling on their priorities list, but at least we were assured Sunday Night and Wednesday Night hockey. I understood when they walked away the first time, ESPN kind of screwed them over, but when the other deal came around ESPN offered them some good air time. Anyway, I digress, I could talk sports all day. Anyway, your mention of the Cubs made me think of this picture I saw years ago. Always made me laugh.Followup Messages:
