That's because "global warming" is a bit of a misnomer. It describes the general overall warming of the planet as a whole, which in turns affects the melting of the ice caps which affect the temps in the oceans which then affect the weather in general. So even though it's called "global warming" it can result in crazy weather such as severe blizzards, droughts, floods, tsunamis, hurricanes etc...
