Such a scene was filmed but supposedly dropped because it conflicted with the pacing of the film...I wonder why they didn't try and come up with a shorter scene that worked better instead of just dropping the Paul scene altogether?

Yeah, and he made up for it tons over in having his film ideas made, in Magical Mystery Tour and Let It Be. They all paid dearly! :)
