Sports Madness In The Briefcase

Posted by **murray** on Apr 27, 2013 at 8:20:09 AM:

I'm reading this book by a Japanese author entitled 'The Briefcase'... teacher. refereed to as Sensei, meets up with a former student (female) at a bar where they continue to hang out...A friendship develops which seems solid until both find themselves watching a baseball game on the bar tv...Sensei is a fan of one team and the former student hates this team...No reason is given as to why this team inspires such hatred... Sensei's team wins the game, with prompts the student to utter a profanity...This episode causes a rift between the two...They continue coming to the bar but they don't speak or sit together for a period of time...

It made me kind of sad to read this... I have gotten so much enjoyment out of Japanese film and literature in the last few years... I guess I didn't want to believe they could be as mind-numbingly stupid as some sports enthusisasts in other parts of the world... Oh well... I guess some things are indeed universal...
