*** Does noise inhibit your concentration when you're reading? I csn manage some soft jazz once in awhile.... maybe a bit of classical..But far more often than not, I have to have quiet or else I wind up reading the same sentence over and over...

***Which brings up to the garden area my wife and I have been working on. .We decided to take an area of the backyard to place outdoor furniture, outdoor bar, hanging baskets, garden flags, yard ornaments, wind chimes, and the like...The first time we decided to take our books out there and read, it wasn't five minutes later when a guy on the street in back of us decided to bring us up to date on the modern country hit parade... Help me Lord...A few doors down, it's a rap freak...The house next door features mariachi...

***I wonder if there are industrial strength earplugs with a garden motif?

**LOL...Getting old?! LOL..I know what you mean. :)
**
**Being a musician, I just try to keep the mindset that someone else nearby also loves music. So, I can appreciate that, and get into whatever music it is,,(UNLESS it is too loud for my tender ears). I NEVER read outside anyway. TOO much to take in, for me.
**
**If too loud, I either go in, or like you mentioned, put in some plugs and just hear my ringing twice as loud! I usually try to deal with the loud music, (NOT that often anyway). In the summer though, any music seems festive,,,so I try to go with the flow on a really nice day. WHY have it ruin my mood? It's MUSIC! Unless it is less music to me, and more just programed beats and such. Then, I might fire back some Beatles! Take THAT!

* When an old favorite floats on the breeze from a distance, it can seem festive. When the volume is at a level that makes the music seem like more like a weapon of mass ear destruction? That's just rudeness...I like to rock out too but I don't feel the overwhelming need to inform people two or three blocks away as to what my listening preferences are, you know? You must behold the awesomeness of DJ Repp O' Ticious! That sort of thing..

Oh I know what you mean! I have a good friend and neighbor two houses and a cross street away. He plays his electric through a "little" Marshall Amp near his open window upstairs. (I have come to know that is no such thing as a "Little" Marshall amp!

With my windows and doors shut, the lows and low mids of his "sound" come right through my livingroom walls as if a huge Marshall amp is on my driveway facing that wall and window! It goes right into my head, (bypassing my ears mind you), and vibrates my jaw and face bones to the point of thinking a jump off a high bridge is not a bad idea. I think my walls act like a piano's sounding board, enhancing the sound wavs! I can go outside, and it;s a good sound, with all the highs and lows,,BUT inside? YIKES!!!!! Can;t watch TV, for my ears are already competing with any TV sound from the intense ringing I always have. AND, with the enhanced lows and low mids of ALL the songs he plays for up to FOUR HOURS,,,(NO Kidding), I either take a ride, go for a walk, or go in my bedroom, put in my ear plugs and TRY to take a friggin nap! LOL

He has been good to my sister, my bother i-law and me through the years,,,,so I just leave it up to any other neighbors who might want to say, "SHUT THE FK UP"!

The thing is though, (oh yeah, it gets worse),,,is that he will TRY to play Jimmy Hendrix songs, with LEADS! With no other music going on. Just him blasting it all out,,,,over and over...Mistakes included,,,off timing included! I hate the off timing more than anything! LOL...("Wait for the timed downbeat, dammit)"!

BUT, he;s alone, (50 years old), with his mother passing last year, and his father passing a few years earlier. AND, no one in his family around at all. (one 3000 miles away). I THINK that LITTLE Marshall was the reason for that!

Other than that,,,,,and oh yeah, the 17 year old next door to me,,,right next to my driveway,,,,has a guess what to go along with HIS guitar? Yep,,,,a LITTLE Marshall! NO kidding again of course. And what music does his play? DEATH METAL! Oh BOY,,,I love my livingroom! LOL....He;s a good kid, and has also helped us all during Hurricane Sandy...SO,,,he plays, and I just deal with it. I will NOT stop anyone from playing "their" music, regardless. I just wish they would buy a REAL "little" amp!

And,,,when playing at the same time,,,,OH yeah, that has happened,,,I wish they would play the same song, AND IN TIME!!!!

All in all,,,it's not many days that they play loud with windows open, so...

I have the choice to live in a close grouped neighborhood or not. So, I deal with that choice and all it brings. DOGS barking too. Now, that is RUFF on my ears and head! LOL
