**
** How many have gone from believing that Sgt. Pepper is the masterpiece to believing that of Revolver and/or Rubber Soul?
**
**
** And how many have a greater fondness for Pepper than they did to begin with?

* Pepper actually went up on my list once I heard it in mono. John was right in my opinion about the Pepper mono mix being superior. I remember reading that about a month was spent working on the mono mix while about only two weeks were spent on the stereo mix. So in other words stereo was almost an after thought. The Fabs only got more into stereo during the making of the White Album. And I think that was partly because Abbey Road updated their equipment. Plus by the late 60s stereo was starting to fully take over. Although I must say The White Album is still interesting to hear in mono.

* I think an argument can be made for all three of the albums you mentioned being masterpieces. Sgt. Pepper isn't necessarily The Beatles all time best album but it obviously was the one that had the most impact on pop culture.

Well, I certainly wouldn't invest precious energy in opposing anyone who considered all three to be masterpieces...There were phases though ...Pepper had its phase for being considered the pinnacle...Then Revolver got the nod...Then Rubber Soul started coming on stronger...

There is definitely something about the mono Pepper though...I still have the mono copy I bought at Woolworth's in '67.. There's got some definite road wear but it's still very playable...
