I was a little displeased with the re-release of a.h.d.n. The MPI version is still my top choice. The 5.1 remastering of the music was a little dissapointing however, not what i expected. The second disc of interviews and deleted scenes was a real suprise to witness! But in the end i prefer the original release. Personally, I think they should have waited to re-release it with a b&w & color version but It is The Beatles after all and anything they do, gets my support 100%. So my vote would be 1. yes i would love to see it in color, and 2. No. I do not think it is better than the original release. Thanks for your time TomNov 3, 2002

My god the movie was meant to be black and white.. if you want color watch Help!!! AHDN is capturing a gritty moment in time that would be cheapened by colorizing.. sad to even think of doing it...As far as Mono....thats what the fabs recorded in at the time...They choose to mix in mono and left the stereo mixs to the engineers....If you want 5.1 sound and colorized video watch some new band your excited about.. if you want to capture a piece of history watch it the way it was made!!! Otherwise hold a piece of silly defusion gel and imagine!!!!!Nov 2, 2002

I haven't seen it yet . . . I don't know how I feel about a colorized version-the black and white I think helps to make it what it is! But its an incredible movie, i've seen it more times than I can count and each time it's as good as the first! God those guys are just amazing!! But yeah, I'm definatly in agreement for a new poll question! Think guys think! :)Nov 1, 2002

no, i would NOT be into seeing a colourised version. colourised movies never seem quite right, and anyway black and white is authentic for the era. i reckon it still hold it's appeal becuase the beatle boys are lovely and funny and their music still rocks!Nov 1, 2002

I would love to see a colourised version of AHDN and I would say that what keeps it going so strong after fourty years, is that it is a timeless movie, and the jokes just never get old, and besides, its the beatles! Everybody likes sommit about the beatles in some way!Oct 31, 2002

The DVD is bad - It is in MONO and the quality is worse than the first release of it on DVD. If you compare the quality it is worse! Why do they have to keep releasing beatles stuff on momo. Even most some of the records are stereo and the CDs are mono!!Why!!!!!Oct 30, 2002

The dvd of HDN looks brilliant! Of course, colorizing the film is completely out of the question. I guess the only thing I could criticize (and this isn't really a criticism) is the extras are almost totally focused on individual interviews. I wouldn't have minded some sort of more technical oriented documentary...perhaps a bit more focus on recording the soundtrack, editing the film, deleted scenes, etc. But it's a fine dvd and I really have no complaints.Oct 29, 2002

no colorised version of AHDN just leave it the way it was meant to be in glorious black and white.its wonderful seeing AHDN again especially this DVD version.can't wait for LET IT BE.Oct 29, 2002

Well, I love AHDN but prefer Help, although the story line is kind of...eh. I like that its in color and there are some awesome performances. And in AHDN, did anyone notice that when the woman asks John what his hobbies were, he scribbled "tits and ass" or something like that. Nice, clean chap.Oct 22, 2002

I loved the film, "A hard day's night." It was really brilliant, and I loved everyones humour on there. I love the part when the Beatles are on the train and the song, "I should have known better" plays on there and when John plays harmonica, he's my favourite Beatle. I LOVE YOU JOHN LENNON!!!FORVEVER!!! -AliceOct 22, 2002

A Hard Day's Night is a wonderful film. I have seen it just twice. In a free exibition in an university, with a very bad traslation (subtitles) to spanish, and in the cinema, when it was re-released, with a decent traslation. Great. Love it. Haven't the DVD nor the VHS. It's great in black and white. I would not try to colour it.Oct 22, 2002

My dad just bought the new dvd of "A Hard Days Night" And I loved it! I was never really that big a Beatles fan until now. They're so fun and silly and you've gotta love that British wit only they could pull off. It looks great in black and white, I'd rather them keep it the way it is... very clean ^^ Anyway John Lennon rocks, hard to believe it took me this long to figure it out.Oct 20, 2002

i haven't seen the dvd, but i just got the vhs and have seen the film about ten or fifteen times already. i love it! they look so young, innocent, charming ... and so witty that every time you watch it you find some piece of humor that you didn't catch before, which is probably why it's still such a great film. i love the black and white -- it's so artsy and it looks like paul's grandfather. (very clean, i mean. there's no other word to describe it.)Oct 20, 2002

i purchased the new dvd of hard days night...while it looked very good, I really think they should have more scenes that were not in the film,,,like you can'do that performance, instead of all those boring interviews on the second disc/ anyway it is still the best of the best of movies.Oct 15, 2002

I have no desire to see a colorized version of AHDN. A big part of the charm of the movie is the black and white-ness *G*. Gives us a feel for the era, too. That said, in addition to the black and white-ness being its charm, I think that the pure humor is what makes it fresh and enjoyable over and over after all of these years. Those lads were a damn funny lot..and they were naturals. Sure, there was a script of sorts, but it was them and their spontaneous wit that made it work. So, there. That's my 2 cents worth.Oct 14, 2002

I love "A Hard Day's Night" because it is funny, sweet, and brilliant! The Beatles did a wonderful job in it, and personally I find it hard to believe that they hadn't acted before. They went into the story like it happened to them every day. The dvd is a 'gear' way to see rare footage and to view the hard-to-come-by film "Running, Jumping, and Standing Still", which was The Beatles main influence for doing the film. It is a great buy for any Beatles fan!! I don't think they should colorize it. The main reason John liked it was because it was in black and white and not "fake color" like "Help!". It would ruin the romantic lighting effects. "A Hard Day's Night" has stood the test of time because it is wonderful entertainment. The script is well written. The Beatles are adorable and funny. What's not to love? It's an hour and a half of nothing but sexy boys singing and clowning around! It is wonderful and I love it!!! :)Oct 13, 2002

I disliked the fact that I don't yet have DVD on which to watch it, (I had the movie ordered from Amazon before it even hit the streets!) but I came home immediately after work and figured out how to play it on my computer. It certainly leaves much to be disired this way after having the opportunity to see it on the big screen again 2 or 3 years ago - however many years ago it was back in the theaters!! I have to say it was kinda fun hanging out in the theater to watch it 2 or 3 times at a sitting as I did when I was young and saw it when it first came out. I would absolutely NOT like to see it in color as it was intended to be done in B&W. As for the music, I was totally impressed with the sound when I first heard it in the theaters and heard the new stereo sound that was not around when they originally did the movie!!! Thanks for redoing it - I've had the movie on order with Amazon for 2+ years since the initial announcement that it was being brought back out for distribution. I am now anxiously awaiting redistribution of the Anthology as my purse couldn't handle the purchase with the initial distribution. I have been in college the last 5 years with my time not my own, but I'm almost finished and can't wait to read the Anthology myself as my teenager already has!Oct 10, 2002

Have been waiting a while to get this, but have to say on the whole it was quite disappointing. Putting aside the fact that this is a superlative film in all aspects this DVD release seems very poorly done. The jacket cover has been made to look "arty" as opposed to the normal AHDN type of affair that we all know and love. No commentary during the film....no apparent restoration to the film, yes those white blotches still appear in clear DVD format! However that is nothing to what has been done to the sound. The original film had unique mixes that were taken "in a hurry" to match the rapid shooting schedule. These were often quite a different pitch to what appeared on the soundtrack album. For the majority of the songs it would appear that they have dubbed on the "stereo" versions of the songs...so we have Can't Buy Me Love minus half the cymbals that were present in the original. This applies to most of the songs, but the worst part is the "concert" sequence at the end where they take the truly atrocious version of She Loves You from the CD where all the cack handed edits stand out a mile and apply some kind of Sound Blaster "Concert" setting to it. They do this to all the songs in this sequence with no variation whatsoever. This effectively adds greatly to the artifice of the miming, whereas in the original film it was far less noticeable. It seems they have tried to "shoe-horn" a mono soundtrack into some kind of ersatz Dolby Digital affair. Frankly it does not work and they should have had the courage to stick to the original. This works well for other period musicals from the same era such as Cliff Richard in Summer Holiday, which sounds very clear and loses nothing in being a mono soundtrack either. Disk Two is very much a watch once and forget. There's no insight into locations, fan control, etc etc. Finally of course there are no Beatles to actually talk about the film.Oct 10, 2002

I am absolutely thrilled with Disc 1. The film print is crisp and the sound is great. My problem is with Disc 2. Most of it is crap. There are a few good things to hear from George Martin (of course) but nothing new from Shenson or Lester. No outtakes, no "I'll Cry Instead" intro video (that's even on the video I've had for years), no theater trailer (I've had that for years, too), no Beatles interviews. It doesn't even have the deleted concert scene of "You Can't Do That." It's mostly boring interviews from the "suits" who put up the money and distributed the movie. They're mostly patting themselves on the back for all the money they made for making the film for less than EMI made "Please Please Me" and how much they took home and put in the bank. To be expected, I guess, in the age we're living in. There are a few brief interviews with Victor Spinetti, Anna Quayle, and such, but they say nothing I haven't already heard or have on video elsewhere. The one thing I haven't had time to sit down and listen to is the interview with Klaus Voorman, so I'm hoping it's good. AND THERE'S NO COMMENTARY TRACK!! I'm sure Lester and Spinetti would have agreed to do a commentary track, and they might even have convinced Paul and/or Ringo to take part. They would have been better off to include the Phil Collins-narrated (he was in the film, you know, in the concert audience) "The Making of A Hard Day's Night." It's interesting and well worth having, and does include "You Can't Do That." I know John and George would have detested what they did with the second disc. I haven't read anywhere how Ringo and Paul feel. I think the basic problem is that the film is not owned by The Beatles, Apple, or even EMI. It's exclusive to United Artists. Having no idea what The Beatles are all about UA has done nothing since 1964 but try to milk money from one of the few Beatles projects not owned by EMI.Oct 7, 2002

The spanish DVD isn't very good because the songs don't sound better than in the album... In Yellow Submarine DVD songs were remastered and the sound was very good but in this new DVD the sound is the same... Only the shouts of the fans are in Dolby Surround...Oct 7, 2002

'A Hard Days Night' is an all time classic comedy. "It's a laugh a line with Lennon." A quote that sums up the film. I've been waiting for ages for it to be released on DVD. It's fantastic. I hope 'Help!' and The Beatles Anthology will be released on DVD soon.Oct 6, 2002

I think the problem with the DVD was that it wasn't an Apple affiliated release. There's no Apple logo anywhere. At least I couldn't find one. The remastering of the songs changed the quality and I'm surprised they didn't throw in the lost footage of "You Can't Do That". It's great to own it on DVD, but I think if it had been an Apple release it would have had some cooler stuff on it. But it's a great movie regardless, the extra stuff I don't watch much anyway. So I'm happy with it.Oct 5, 2002

Give Me Some Truth
I think the slowed down songs were always that way (can't comment on when the film was released long ago). I've seen the old VHS release and have the 1st MPI copy of the DVD...the songs are slower pitch on those as well. That said, I am disappointed with the new version because... 1. it's letterboxed - the 1st DVD fit the whole TV screen, 2. I don't think the sound/picture is much improved (of course I don't have a home theater surroundsound unit), 3. The original DVD has some better extra features that were left off of the new one such as the original movie trailer and the "I'll Cry Instead" prologue. I realize the latter was added to the home releases, but couldn't it have been a bonus track on the new one? The interviews are nice but probably won't watch them too often That said, of course, the movie is great. (but is you can find a decent priced copy of the original DVD on Ebay, it's worth getting)Oct 4, 2002

I agree with the below post about the songs. They drove me crazy! They were slowed down, and sort-of mechicalized (like a synthesizer). I hate the "improved" songs. It's not even remotely believable that our boys were singing in the film. Of course, we know they were lipsynching, but at least (before) it was imaginable that John started singing "If I fell in love with you..." to Ringo. Now, it's obviously fake. Everything else was great, though.Oct 4, 2002

While viewing the DVD release, I can't help notice that the songs sound different- as if Miramax slowed them down in the remastering stage. I was tempted to mute the TV and play the CD versions instead. I like how the DVD offers the behind-the-scenes footage with the production crew- but I would've liked to see Ringo or Paul being interviewed- but they probably believe they've already said enough about it... I wouldn't like to see a colorized version of the movie- it would degrade it somehow. B&W is artsy- it "fits" the movie. After 40 years, the movie remains fresh because it gives off an energy- watch it, and you'll feel it!Oct 3, 2002

A colorized version of this film would be horrible as with any black and white film! If a film is made in color then it should be seen in color and the same goes for B&W. This is a great, original film and shouldnt be touched in any way. Color would ruin the charm.Oct 3, 2002

I haven't yet got a DVD player :( But I guess this will be a better quality version for those who have, and I suppose it will have some added extras. Can they do decent colorizations on B&W films now? This process used to be a bit suspect, to say the least - and the film was intended to be in B&W, so personally, I think they should leave it alone. What makes it so popular after 40 years is that it was a funny script, and used many innovative techniques for it's time. Of course, the continuing popularity of the Beatles doesn't hurt it either.Oct 3, 2002
